Yet another week over and once again we were faced with two life saving situations.
A lactating bitch was abandoned at our front gate with three puppies in tow. She is small and extremely undernourished due to the fact that her offspring, although well over two months old and almost as big as her, were still nursing off her! This small frightened creature, who at first didn’t trust anyone, finally began letting our three volunteer Dutch vets examine and treat her. It is unimaginable as to what she has been through and our approach has been cautious to ensure that she regains her confidence in human beings.
Her three puppies on the other hand are boisterous and wanting for human touch. They were immediately separated from their mother and placed in quarantine until we are sure that they are not sick in any way. Once they are given a clean bill of health by our vets they will enter into our Adopt Responsibly scheme.
Another difficult touch and go case is a tiny kitten found by an Aanifeira member yesterday. He appeared to be suffering from a serious breathing problem when she found him and was immediately examined and put on the drip. His situation remains unstable and we are praying that he will survive.
Every week we are faced with these sort of situations and every week we think to ourselves, thank goodness we are here to help save some of these helpless creatures who deserve so much better in life.
