This week, Construction Phase III got underway at Aanifeira and residents in the main pavilion saw a new light when finally rays of sunshine poured into their boxes for the first time ever!
It was an overwhelming few days which all began last Monday morning when a firm specializing in the removal of dangerous roofing, set themselves up and work got underway to remove the asbestos roofing covering the 2nd corridor in the main pavilion.
The old pavilion where the majority of the dogs are housed was originally constructed by the Santa Maria da Feira council to house cattle and when they granted rights for Aanifeira to house their dogs there from 1999, things were pretty dim and dark in all aspects for many of the resident dogs there.
Today however, nearly 12 years later, thanks to the kindness of the largest dog welfare charity in the U.K., Dogs Trust, Aanifeira’s residents are getting rays of sunshine into their boxes and they are just so ecstatic about it all!
