Secretary of Animal Medical Care Foundation Visits Aanifeira

Aanifeira was delighted to receive Sylvie Hood, of the Animal Medical Care Foundation (AMCF) recently, for a visit to see the shelter and meet all the staff and volunteers.  Sylvie was visiting Portugal with her husband Mike on holiday and had made Aanifeira part of their itinerary, as they had adopted little Sunny (originally Flash) from the shelter and both were very keen to meet everyone who had cared for him along the way.  Sylvie in her position as Secretary of the AMCF, works tirelessly on a volunteer basis together with Betty, AMCF President, in helping run and organise everything connected with the foundation.

I had picked Sylvie and Mike up from their hotel on Saturday morning and we drove straight down to Aanifeira where they were anxious to meet all the team.  On our arrival Victor and Paulo greeted them and I gave them a complete tour of the shelter including the recently inaugurated Brigitte Bardot Sector of boxes which they seemed really impressed with.  As we moved from box to box, Sylvie and Mike we were greeted with lots of barking and wagging tails and it gave them the opportunity to touch and make contact with all the dogs.

We visited the small cattery and of course the Aanifeira veterinary clinic where Sylvie was finally able to meet with Claudia our veterinarian who originally operated on Sunny’s eye when he first came in.   Claudia had just completed a spaying operation, with the help of two Dutch interns, so we caught her in her scrubs but she was able to talk with them about Sunny and his plight whilst at Aanifeira.  Claudia gave them a tour of the infirmary and the clinic in general too and we felt proud to show how the help in donated medicines that the AMCF sends us, are all put to good use.

Sylvie and Mike also gave us all an update on Sunny saying how independent he is and that his sight impediment doesn’t restrict him in any way.   They very kindly sent over some recent photos (see below) of Sunny and Polly, a rescued greyhound that they have, relishing a good roll in the recently dug up onion patch.

Our thanks to you both, Sylvie and Mike, firstly for all that you have done for little Sunny and secondly for coming to visit us.  It is always a pleasure to receive adoptees of our dogs and especially yourselves who only knew little Sunny through the internet!   We also continue to be grateful for all the help that the AMCF gives us.

It certainly warns my heart to see such kind and spiritual service being done for no monetary reward. It is a shame a large portion of the world don’t understand going out of one’s way for no money.
